Ask Yaz

You write about all of these alternative methods in your blog (color therapy and what not), so I was wondering are you at all into feng shui? I was introduced to it some time ago but just recently started thinking of applying feng shui to my first big project – house purchase. There’s A LOT of things to consider here, so I’m feeling kind of lost. But applying feng shui to some small stuff in your life and doing small improvements can be fun and helpful. At least I think so. So, if you have not considered feng shui before, I would encourage you to do so and certainly to write about it. Oh, and I have real question for you: Do you think I should do it? Should I consider feng shui while looking for my new home?
Thanks for your response,
Best,
AMA

Hey AMA,
I’m glad you’ve mentioned feng shui because I am into it. However, I don’t know much about it and whenever I read about it I feel overwhelmed and as though some principles seemingly oppose each other. I had always applied some feng shui principles though –decluttering my home, putting fountain in the house for good financial prospects, using crystals. So, honestly I don’t know why I haven’t written on my blog about it yet. Thank you for your suggestion and I’ll have it in mind for the future posts. Maybe even this next one. :) To answer you real questionJ, I believe we should not immerse ourselves into just one thing being that religion, feng shui or science and have only one perspective on things and events in our life. I’m saying this because I know why you want to follow feng shui in purchasing your home. I get it. Purchasing a home marks new beginning for you and you want positive energy flowing in you and all around you. You’re purchasing new home, so that’s already positive energy flowing in you and since you’re good person you’ll be surrounded by people and things that make you feel good. If they don’t make you feel good, you can always remove yourself from the presence of those people and from bad situations. So, I’d just like to remind you to believe in yourself throughout the process. If you like a house that was not built following feng shui principles but you really like it, I would encourage you to go for it anyway. However, if it’s really important to you to follow feng shui this time to the t and choose the house based on its principles, then by all means you should follow feng shui. I would suggest you imagine yourself in your home in ten years. And if you feel ecstatic that you’ve followed feng shui in choosing it and that you like that house because of its feng shui flow of positive energy, then I believe your new home should resemble feng shui principles. Good luck with your house purchase.

Dear Yaz,

I know you’re not a doctor, but I’ve read some of your posts on how we can improve our overall health and was wondering if you can maybe give me some advice. Each season, in early winter and usually spring, I get severe sinus infections. I’ve done antibiotic treatments so many times and have had enough of them already. I wanna try something new. Antibiotics help but I'm afraid that their cumulative effect on my body is unhealthy. Is there any alternative method (you have heard about or have experience with) I can use to cope with my chronic sinusitis?

Thank you,
Best regards,
Vanessa

Dear Vanessa,

As you’ve mentioned already, I’m not a doctor (of either Western or Eastern medicine), so I wouldn’t know how your age, state of your sinuses and nasal passages, as well as nasal bone deformities come into equation with using some alternative medicine methods. With that said, I’ve read on the internet that acupressure massage and some Chinese herbal medicines can be helpful. But what I can tell you from an experience of a very close person to me, ACUPUNCTURE can be very helpful in easing the pain and pressure on one’s sinuses. He had acupuncture sessions alongside usual treatments (antibiotics, antihistamines, nasal sprays). It helped relieve his symptoms tremendously and it seemed immediately. He had less of a problem with runny nose, sneezing and didn’t blow his nose as much. However, his problem all that time was deviated septum and finally this year he has had septoplasty done to solve his problem with his sinuses. For now, it looks fine and he hasn’t had as much of a problem with his sinuses as he used to do. But everyone is different and adding acupuncture to your treatment might be all you need. If you decide to do it, do your research and be sure to have it done by licensed therapist. Also, talk to your doctor and make him well aware of you doing acupuncture.
