4 Easy Ways to Improve Your Mood

We all have moments when we feel down or bored. Even the weather can affect our mood. However, let me tell you this, you are not on your own and there are many of us who feel sad and discouraged, some more often than others. So, there are those moments when we feel a little down but don’t have time or energy to contemplate it. Sometimes, taking as few as thirty seconds can be enough to improve your mood.

So, how do you pick yourself up quickly and efficiently?

BREATHE DEEPLY
Inhale and exhale several times in a row. Breathing is spontaneous and often we do not think about it. Deep breathing, especially if we are doing it near an open window or out in the open, works wonders. It has been revealed that we free ourselves of as much as 70 percent of bad emotions through our lungs, using deep breathing technique.

STRETCH YOUR MUSCLES
Gently stretch your legs and raise your arms, stretching as much as you can. Stretch as though you would touch the stars. Repeat this several times. Blood will rush through your body and you'll feel better instantly.

DRINK SOME WATER
Our brain is 75 percent made of water. When we lack water, our brain suffers the most. To make your brain work better, have a glass of water. Never use juice or carbonated drinks to replace water.

SMILE
Even a fake smile can improve our mood. At first it may be a little strained, but when you learn to smile just for yourself, your smile will be more spontaneous and you’ll smile more often; and the most important thing is you’ll always feel better than before.

The other day I was talking to my mom on the phone and was running late for my dance class, so I had to hang up quickly. At the end, I’ve come across as a little rude to my mom and that started bothering me. But I knew I’ll  feel better the moment I start worming up for the class, breathing deeply and stretching my muscles. The next day, I called my mom, apologized for the day before and we continued as though nothing happened. However, only few years before the same thing would happen to me and I would think about it for a long time and my day would be ruined.

Now, the feeling of constant happiness and joy is very much achievable, but it requires a lot of work and knowledge…Until then we can use these quick and easy pick-me-up techniques.:)
